In the night of May 3rd temperatures dropped below zero. In several vinyards some fifty percent of the sprouts have not survived this sudden cold snap. Although the vines eventually will recover, the fruit for the 2011 harvest has been destroyed.
For the past few years we had been spared by the so called "Ice Saints" (or "Eisheilige" as this particular weather phenomenon is called in German). But it was only a matter of time until this would occur again. We now hope this will be the only setback in the vine's growth and are looking forward to kind weather.
